SWEET HOME ALABAMA: I've been spending the week at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta, which probably sounds nicer than it is. Atlanta is not my favorite city. It makes me think about how much I like Birmingham, and I have these pictures I've been meaning to post.

It's particularly nice there this time of year. Here's our "front yard," where the geese live. Speaking of the geese, that situation has gotten a little out of control. There are way more than two families now (five, at least), and due to my willingness to run outside and feed them whenever they pass through, they often congregate outside my study window looking for handouts. It's probably really grossing the neighbors out, but I love it.

My favorite family is one with seven goslings -- actually seven plus an extra one, apparently adopted, who's significantly bigger than his siblings and often muscles them out of the way for breadcrumbs.

Anyway, you can't see it in the picture, but there are tons of pink roses growing wild on the bank of the pond. I've been decorating with them.

Okay, enough with the Martha Stewart stuff. Tomorrow it's more shopping in Buckhead (okay, shopping is one thing that's nicer in Atlanta), then back to Birmingham, and then a short international jaunt next week.

JAZZFEST WAS . . . wet, but fun. We were trapped inside a tent for a long time while some fierce thunderstorms came through the fairground, but the bands played on and the music was good. Then the sun came out, and people rushed the food booths for lots of dishes involving crawfish.

And then we saw the Counting Crows while standing next to this guy in the straw hat, who I'm told is famous. I'm not sure who he is, but he's definitely a Counting Crows fan, because after this picture was taken he started to dance around in a very entertaining manner.

MICKEY KAUS calls this "[t]he only sexy picture ever taken of Maggie Gyllenhaal." Ouch!

OKAY, SO it turns out I never got blogging withdrawal. In fact, it felt quite nice to take a break from it.

But here's a new Legal Eagle Wedding Watch for you.

The KC is off to JazzFest tomorrow!
